Completed Crochet CAL 2014

Soooooo I’ve an confession I actually finished this CAL blanket a good few week ago for my brother and his partners 30th birthday, and I’ve just not had a chance to share with you the completed blanket. So here it is….

CAL Crochet Blanket A Block A Week 2014

Hook | 5mm

Yarn | Stylecraft Special DK in Mocha, White and Raspberry

Blocks | can be found here

CAL BlanketI simple joined them by stitching them together using the whipped stitch in the back loops.

CAL Blanket rolledI didn’t really set the blocks out in any particular order as I liked the randomness (plus I was tight on time to get it finished) I did though place all the puffy/more textured blocks in a cross in the middle.

CAL Blanket 1

CAL blanket 2The Border | I simply spent hours on pinterest but eventually decided on two rows of double crochet (uk treble), a V Stitch row, another double crochet row and then simply a single crochet (uk double crochet) in a contrasting colour. and I was quite happy with the outcome.

CAL BorderSo for something that has taking me a good year in the making I am very happy with the completed blanket and I was very sad to see it leave, but I do know the recipients love it as much as I loved making it!

If you have like following this CAL on my blog why not visit us over on the offical CCC facebook page and give some a go.

Right now to find another CAL……

CAL – Week 18 Kata & 19 Lemony Lime Citrus

Cal blocks week 18 & 19

Whew all caught up again we’ve had a 3 year old birthday and more baby blankets keeping me busy this week but I am still loving this CAL and I’m still learning lots. These two blocks were a complete joy and I thoroughly enjoyed them…

Kata

Pattern – Kata by Penny Davidson
Hook – 5mm
Yarn – Stylecraft special DK in White, Mocha, Raspberry

Notes – This is by far my favourite block so far! I love it, and I loved making it. The pattern is so beautifully written and was so easy to work through I could make hundreds of them in every colour possible.

And here it is…

Lemony Lime Citrus – week 19

CAL Lemony Lime Citris week 19 close up

Pattern – Lemony Lime Citrus by Donna Mason-Svara
Hook – 5mm
Yarn – Stylecraft special DK in White, Mocha, Raspberry

Notes – This block again was a delight to crochet up and it was so simple to follow and I love the end result and I quite like the smaller block at the end of my raspberry rounds, I think I would definitely do a small blanket full of these smaller squares. In fact I’ve kept it in my ravelry library for later.

And again…

CAL – Week 16 Lace Petals & 17 Winter Rose

Lace Petals – week 16

CAL 16 Lace petals close up

Pattern – Lace Petals by Chris Simon
Hook – 5mm
Yarn – Stylecraft special DK in White, Mocha, Raspberry

Notes – This block I love it is completely different from the others we have done so far and I love the lacy look and feel to it. I will admit its not perfect but I quite like that after all its handmade by me!

Don’t forget to pop over to loopsan’s blog to see her beautiful blocks.

And so…

Winter Rose – week 17

cal 17 winter rose detail

Pattern – Winter Rose by Julee Reeves
Hook – 5mm
Yarn – Stylecraft special DK in White, Mocha, Raspberry

Notes – Oh my goodness this one has been the hardest one for me so far…I really had to concentrate and I’m not sure I followed the pattern to the letter either (oops). I didn’t read the groups advice till I was quite far through the block of only going up to Row 14 and using a smaller hook, so what I did was follow the pattern up to round 12 then I missed round 13 and finished on round 14 with just trebles (dcs in US terms). So rounds 15-19 were sadly missed out. I do love how textured this block is but sadly I’m not really happy on how I’ve worked it up I may try this one again.

The block begins with the popcorn stitch which makes up the main flower I tried my hand at a tutorial that may be handy here

If you are trying or would like to try this block you will no doubt need Dedri’s tutorial on her blog Look at what I made it is a invaluable tutorial that I very much needed.

And so to my wonky little block..

And here’s how my blanket is looking…I do have a couple of small ones that I think need an extra row of half treble (hdc in us)

Cals 1-17

I’d better start blocking this little lot before I get to the end of this CAL otherwise I’m going to have no space in my house come Christmas!
